What are cookies and how does the JD Panel use them? (back to top)

As part of offering and providing customizable and personalized services, the JD Panel may use cookies to store and sometimes track information about you. A cookie is a small amount of data that is sent to your browser from a web server and stored on your computer's hard drive. Some areas on the JD Panel where you are prompted to log-in or that are customizable may require that you accept cookies. This avoids you having to enter your login information many times in one day.

Generally, we use cookies to:

(1) Remind us of who you are and to access your account information (stored on our computers) in order to deliver to you a better and more personalized service. This cookie is set when you register or "Sign In" and is modified when you "Sign Out" of our services by going to a different web site or by closing the Internet browser window.

(2) Track your progress in terms of referrals made to the JD Panel web site. This is mostly for your convenience in terms of giving you feedback about the number of referrals you made which were unique or new to the database. Also, from time to time, the company may use this information to be able to privately acknowledge persons who have made significant contributions to the growth of the site's user base.

(3) Measure certain traffic patterns, which areas of the JD Panel web site you have visited, and your visiting patterns in the aggregate. We use this research to understand how our users' habits are similar or different from one another so that we can make each new experience on the JD Panel a better one. We may use this information to better personalize the content that you and other users will see on our sites.

The JD Panel also collects IP addresses for system administration and to report aggregate information.
